Finally

Finally another party and another post! Remember when I said that I was going to move and then I didn't? Well, right afterward, I sold my house again and we were back to square one! So after moving and having the business of the holidays out of the way, we FINALLY had another book party! It was a good review for my kids, since we finished James and the Giant Peach around 5 months ago! In fact, hopefully we'll be having another party soon after this one, as we are now almost finished with reading "The Trumpet of the Swan" by E.B. White. Stay tuned!

Hello Friends!

I know I haven't posted a book party on here lately, but it's not because we haven't been reading! We've been busy moving- and then not- this summer. Half my house is packed up in my garage while we wait. Live and learn!

I wanted to let everyone know that we have changed books! I started reading The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and got about 2/3 through when my 3-year-old REFUSED to listen to it anymore. He was afraid of the witch, and nothing I could say or do would sway him. I let him choose a new book, and we started reading James and the Giant Peach. He LOVES bugs, so this book got him excited about reading books again. We just finished so stay tuned for party updates!

Hello Readers! I have a list of books that I want to read to my children, but I'm curious to know if you have any suggestions that you've read to your kids, or that you think would make for a fun party! I'm open to suggestions! I have a hard time picking my books because there are so many great children's books out there. Some of the books I intend on reading are: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Indian in the Cupboard, The Secret Garden, Alice in Wonderland, Rocket Boys (maybe when the kids are a little older), James and the Giant Peach... The list goes on and on.  Share your list, and I may pick your book next! :o)

BabyLit books

I just received the CUTEST baby board books from my cousin at Gibbs Smith printing (thanks Sabrina!).  I didn't realize that I could start reading my kids the classics from birth! They are simple little board books, but great because your child will recognize these classics when they're older. Plus the illustrations are TO DIE FOR! Titles include Pride & Prejudice, Dracula, Romeo & Juliet and Moby Dick. Check them out here.

How it Works

Hello and welcome to the Never Land Reading Club! Here's how it works:

Every day I read a children's novel to my kiddos. Some days we only read a page or two. Some days we read a couple chapters. It doesn't really matter how much, the point is that you're reading together! After reading we spend time talking about what happened in the chapter. I ask them about the good or bad things that happened, what their favorite character is, or talk to them about certain themes in the book. After we finish a novel, we have a book party!

The point of the book parties is to bring the book to life for your kids. We don't spend a lot of money on them (under $25), and all the decorations are crafts that I do with the kids during the week before the party. I have a bucket of craft items that I have on hand. Items include markers, glue, crayons, pipe cleaners, stickers, glitter, construction paper, and a paper roll (bought from Ikea for $5). It looks like a lot of work, but I promise, it's not! Plus, I've done all the leg work for you! I've included my print outs, game instructions and recipes. If I can do this, you definitely can! :o)

On the right hand side you'll find the information on the book that we're currently reading, along with the book that I'm planning on reading next. Click on the tabs above to find information on books that we've already read and information on the book parties that we've had.

Have fun making memories with your children! Let me know how it's going!
