About Us

Hi. I'm Jeni. I'm 33 years old, but if you ask my 5-year old, he'd tell you I'm only 27. I graduated college with a bachelors of fine arts, and then married my sweetheart, Jeremy. We've been married for 9 years that have been filled with ups and downs, but mostly ups. I'm a piano teacher, a house cleaner, a dinner maker, a friend, but mostly I'm a mom. I have 3 awesome little boys who I love fiercely, and who have graciously decided to love me back! They fill my days with craziness. Some days I feel overwhelmed and think that if I hear one more whine, I'll start pulling out my hair. But those days are balanced with cuddling and wrestling, laughing and kisses. Being a mom is definately the hardest, but most rewarding job I've ever had.  

I started this blog because I love to read to my kids. My oldest, Tyler, loves to read too. He became obsessed with letters and numbers, and started reading at an early age. When he was able to read all the children's picture books I owned, I missed reading to him. One day I pulled out my copy of Charlottes Web and started reading the novel to him and my second son, Jayce. They loved it. I'd read them a chapter, and then we'd discuss what happened in the chapter, what was good or bad, what they thought might happen next. They looked forward to the story, I looked forward to the cuddle time. 

When we finished Charlottes Web, I decided we needed to have a reward for reading an entire novel. I wanted to do something that would bring the book to life for the kids. So, the children and I made some crafts, we baked some treats and we threw a Charlottes Web Party and watched the movie.  A tradition was born. I picked the next novel and we started again.

When I told my family and a couple of friends about it, they thought that I should share our experiences on a blog. I hope that some of you will start reading to your children as well. The rewards are endless, but I'll tell you what I love: 

• I love the cuddle time
• I love teaching my children about the different themes that come up in the novels. 
• As a mom, I deal with a lot of day-to-day parenting things that come up. Sometimes I feel like Dad gets to be the "fun guy". This is something my kids and I can do together, and something that they'll always remember.

I'm not a Super Mom. I get annoyed with my kids sometimes. My house isn't always spotless. Sometimes I throw a frozen pizza in the oven for dinner. But I know that I'm doing a good job reading to my children when I hear my 2 year old playing with his super hero figures; "I will smash you!, said Hulk.  No, I will laser beam you!, said Iron Man." As if he were reading it right out of a book.
